लागवडीचा हंगाम/हवामान:

खरीप – जूनचा पहिला आठवडा,  रब्बी-सप्टेंबरचा शेवटचा आठवडा,  उन्हाळी – जानेवारी, फेब्रुवारी

                रताळे वर्षभर बाजारात उपलब्ध असतात.  शीतोष्ण आणि समशीतोष्ण असे दोन्ही प्रकारचे हवामान असलेल्या प्रदेशात रताळ्याची लागवड केल्यास चांगले उत्पादन मिळू शकते. रताळे हे पीक  हलक्या प्रतीच्या भुसभुशीत जमिनीत,  कमी खर्चात आणि कमी वेळेत  उत्तम प्रकारे निघते.

रताळ्याच्या लागवडीसाठी वालुकामय चिकणमाती सर्वात योग्य आहे.  लागवडीसाठी योग्य निचरा असलेली सुपीक जमीन निवडा.  मातीची pH पातळी  ५.८ ते ६.८  दरम्यान असावी.  कडक आणि खडकाळ जमिनीत त्याची लागवड करू  नये.

                लागवडीकरिता जमीन १५  ते  २५  सें.मी. खोलीपर्यंत नांगरून किंवा खोदून घ्यावी.  ६० सें.मी. अंतरावर वरंबे  जमिनीच्या  उतारास  काटकोनात  करावेत.  लागवड  करताना  बेणे वरंब्यावर  २५ सें.मी. अंतरावर लावावे.  बेण्याचा  मधला  भाग जमिनीत  पुरावा  व दोन्ही टोके उघडी ठेवावीत.   बेण्याच्या  मधल्या  भागावरील  दोन डोळे मातीत पुरले जातील, अशी काळजी घ्यावी.

लागवड करण्यासाठी सुधारित वाण:

                रताळ्याच्या रोपांना लागवडीच्या आधारावर सिंचन केले जाते.  जर उन्हाळी हंगामात लागवड केली असल्यास लागवडीनंतर लगेचच पाणी द्यावे. या दरम्यान झाडांना आठवड्यातून एकदा पाणी दिले जाते. त्यामुळे शेतात पुरेसा ओलावा राहून कंदांचा विकास चांगला होतो. पावसाळ्यात रोपे लावली असतील तर त्यांना जास्त सिंचनाची गरज भासत नाही. फक्त पाऊस पडलाच नाही तेव्हा मात्र पिकाला पाणी द्यावे लागते. रब्बी हंगामात रताळ्याची लागवड करण्याचा विचार असेल तर, ह्या हंगामात लागवड केलेल्या रताळ्याला मात्र पाण्याची आवश्यकता असते.

फर्टिलायझेशन:
